Joe and Karen Leier, who have been in Guatemala since 2002, launched a brand new mission by the name of Freelance Missions. After repeatedly seeing the need for technical expertise and hands on help, of the missionaries here in Guatemala and of the Guatemalans themselves, they have formed a mission to help in the "rubber meets the road" needs of electrical, computer support, satellite installation, construction, generator (power plant) repair and numerous other areas that seem to be apparent in a country where they are striving to catch up with other industrialized countries. So many missionaries are dependent on the internet for informing their supporters or keeping in contact with other people in their mission who are in remote areas of the country, therefore computer and internet support is a vital part of this ministry. This "enabling missionaries to fulfill the great commission" is a fairly uncommon ministry but Joe and Karen have found it is a much needed one. Many of the missionaries have expressed their thanks for this practical form of ministry to the Body of Christ here.
